Our Reason to Relay
Kathy was loving and loved by all who knew her. She was unassuming and didn’t like being in the spotlight, but was always there for anyone who needed her. In October of 2004, Kathy was diagnosed with advanced invasive breast cancer. Kathy’s Crew was formed as a support team while she was going through her treatment. After chemo, radiation and surgeries, she was in remission for several years. In early 2008, the cancer returned and after another courageous battle, we lost her in February of 2009. Throughout her entire battle, she stayed optimistic and never asked “Why Me?”. She looked at her diagnosis as her taking the bullet for 8 of her close family and friends and truly meant it. She always looked out for others to encourage and pray for in their cancer battles.
Shortly after her death, Jim and Julie formed Kathy’s Crew and joined the 2009 Relay for Life. We easily formed a large team because anyone who knew her wanted to help. We are honoring her memory and her determination and making a difference by teaming up to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. Kathy is our inspiration for Kathy’s Crew, but there are many others who we miss and support through their cancer battle. Cancer reaches its ugly hand into so many lives and our goal is to be a small part of bringing that to an end.
At the event, our team will camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays so future generations don’t have to hear those awful words “You have cancer”.
Saving lives from cancer starts one team, one participant, and one dollar at a time. Our team is doing our part to make sure that cancer never steals another year of anyone’s life.
Please join our team or make a donation. The impact we can make together is much greater than what any of us could do alone!
